I could never get into any of the scenes because of the ridiculous overuse of alliteration. I originally planned to do my entire review in over the top alliteration, but this book doesn't even deserve that. The editor should have shoved this back into Frank's freaking face and told him to redo the pages where he went alliteration happy because those pages, which are unfortunately very frequent, ruined his book. It's sad because the concept and the action was really interesting and then he went and made a mess of it.Product details

I would have enjoyed this story if every description of a body part or act was not alliterative or didn't rhyme. It was totally distracting.

If you live in the Kansas City to Lawrence KS area you probably already know Frank Lingo from his biting and funny columns in the Kansas City Star, his trenchant commentaries on NPR and his Sci-fi novel, Earth Vote.
It's been more than a decade since Earth Vote, but now comes his 2nd novel, Orgasm Rebellion. It's an insightful satire on what used to be called "the war between the sexes."
Back in the late 1800's electricity was seen as a miracle tool by medicine. One of its applications was for the first vibrators. These early, crude contraptions were entrusted primarily to medical doctors to relieve female "hysteria" i.e. any mental or emotional condition doctors didn't understand--with clinically induced orgasms. No kidding. As you can imagine, this "treatment" was all the rage.
Lingo cleverly uses that historical window to construct a scenario in which this practice and the discovery of their orgasms, leads to a women's revolt. The women demand satisfaction from their husbands for the satisfaction they give.
The story is fertile ground for Lingo's satiric pen. His writing has the accuracy and crispness that you'd expect from a newspaper veteran and the story-telling precision you'd expect from a radio pro. Parts of Orgasm Rebellion are laugh out loud funny, while exploring the power relationships in sex roles and how technology effects them.
Lingo's work is not for the prudish--it's wildly funny, but unabashedly sexually explicit on the way to making its point....sort of an immoral book with a moral.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I read this because it was written by a Lawrence, Ks author and featured in the Sunday edition of the news paper.
When I started the book I was a bit put off by it, but read a little further and started laughing and found it to be very humorous. If you are the least bit prudish, this book isn't for you. The author's name, Frank Lingo says it all.
